Real estate is the greatest industry in the world for multiple reasons.  First, real estate touches everyone in some way.  As the Realtor Code of Ethics starts off, “Under all is the land. Upon its wise utilization and widely allocated ownership depend the survival and growth of free institutions and of our civilization.”  Real estate affects the economy as a whole and affects individual’s economic conditions.  Real estate helps people grow wealth and has caused people to go broke.  Real estate is a huge driver of the economy through the production of homes, transfer of ownership and money spent to furnish, decorate, and maintain properties. Real estate has caused the economy to go into a deep recession almost 20 years ago.  Everyone is touched by real estate regardless of whether they own a thousand homes or are homeless.  Being a part of the industry that has such an impact on people, places and the economy is the first reason real estate is the greatest industry in the world!



The second reason real estate is the greatest industry in the world is because real estate is hyper-local in the global market.   All real estate markets are connected, yet no two markets are the same.  We see it locally here.  In Craven County, the number of homes for sale is down seventy-one homes or around 12% from this time last year. However, in Pamlico County, the number of homes for sale is up 21% compared to last summer.



The remarkable thing about both markets is that more homes are selling this year compared to last year.  The local market is connected to the global market because our market depends on a lot of buyers being able to sell their home elsewhere.  If the market where the buyer is coming from is slow or hot, it determines how they will perceive our market and affect their ability to purchase a property.  In most cases, other than first time home buyers, people buying typically need to sell.  With the number of sales being higher and overall, the number of homes for sale being fewer, supply and demand is still playing in our favor.  With low supply and demand remaining strong we are seeing prices hold steady.  In some markets across our country, we are seeing prices drop significantly.  In other markets we are seeing prices continue to rise.  All the markets are connected, though what happens in one market does not usually have a significant impact on different markets.



Another reason real estate industry is the greatest industry in the world is because no days and no transactions are the same.  Helping people achieve their goals means we get the opportunity to help many different people that have many distinct reasons to reach many different outcomes.  We get to celebrate with clients and experience heartbreak with clients.  I have been in clients’ weddings and been in court for clients’ divorces.   I have marveled over beautiful babies and mourned over lost loved ones with clients.   I have had my heart broken going into people’s homes and seeing their living conditions and have been wowed by the luxury of other homes.  As we do this day in and day out at The Home Sales Team, it is about serving others to assist them in reaching their goals. It is not about a commission check or being through with a client or a transaction.    We take care of our clients because if we take care of you, you will tell your friends and family who to call to help them achieve their real estate goals.  We know if we serve our clients fully, success will follow.



I could continue and author a book about why real estate is the greatest industry in the world.  The impact real estate has locally and globally is unmatched.  The joy we get in doing real estate the right way for our people with proper knowledge, professionalism, and care is why we do what we do.  The Home Sales Team is lucky as we love what we do and the people we get to do it with, since we work in the greatest industry in the world!
